Abstract
Over the past decade, technology has enhancedface-to-face and distance education course content.Learning technology falls into three categories:information technologies for content delivery, interactive technologies for user engagement, andsocial software for group activities and higher-orderlearning.1,2 Communication technologies, initiallydeveloped for synchronous and asynchronousinteractions, have merged into learning platformslike learning management systems or virtual learningenvironments. Web tools and social media softwareenable two-way communication, knowledgesharing, and social connections. These technologiesfacilitate interactive, group-based learning fordistance learners through video conferencing, chat, and virtual classrooms, replicating face-to-faceexperiences.3 The rise of online learning introducesnew tools, data, and dynamics with transformativepotential. However, traditional e-learning, whileexpanding access, often lacks engagement andinteractivity, resulting in passive learning. The focalintent is to improve learning efficacy, convenience, and accessibility and optimize cost-effectiveness.
